MOLER RACEWAY PARK
2008 DEMOLITION DERBY RULES
The general rules as well as the car rules are developed with the driver's safety as the Number One concern. We do
admit that demos are a dangerous sport and Moler Raceway Park assumes no liability in the result of injury from
competing in this event.
1. All cars must be on the grounds at least one-hour before the event to be inspected. Any cars arriving late will not be
eligible to compete unless prior arrangements have been made. For derbies that require pre-registration, cars must be
pre-entered no later than 5:00 p.m., the day of the event.
2. All cars must be removed by 12:00 noon the following day or they will become the property of the salvage yard.
3. The driver must be at least 18 years of age. You must be able to prove age upon request to drive or have a
notarized release signed by parent or guardian. No one under the age of 16 will be able to compete unless approved.
Anyone under 18 must have a notarized release signed by parent stating that parents assume all risks and liabilities.
4. Approved racing helmets must be worn at all times. Goggles or a face shield, fire suit must be worn. If a driver
removes his or her helmet while the event is taking place they will forfeit all winnings and be disqualified for the night.
5. ANY unsportsmanlike conduct will cause your car to be disqualified. The judge's decision will be final.
6. No liquor or intoxicating beverages allowed in the pits. Possession of alcohol or drugs will result in disqualification.
7. A MANDATORY Drivers meeting will be held 1/2 hour before the event. Any car protests must be made at this time.
8. A driver that receives a black flag for sandbagging or an intentional door hit will be disqualified. There will be
heat race time limits and sandbagging markings used. No head on collisions allowed at start or direct hits to the drivers
door. If door comes open or fan is exposed you are diqualified.
9. The derby is to provide entertainment for the spectators. Anyone not complying with the rules will be barred.
10. It is MANDATORY for everyone entering the pits to purchase a pit pass.
11. If the cars are found illegal no entries will be refunded. (Cars should be brought legal). Not having a set of rules is
no excuse. MRP reserves the right to approve or reject any entries.
12. Cars must be 78 or newer and have VIN stamp on car or title to prove the year.
13. The driver is the only person allowed around the car while it's being inspected. Car will be disqualified if rule is not
followed.
IMPORTANT: PREPARATION OF CAR
Cars are to be constructed according to rules. No all-thread can be used to fasten hoods or trunks. VIN numbers must
be in place on all cars 78 and newer. Bumper Hight minimum is 16 inches. Minimum tire an wheel size is 14 inch. No
gas tank protector bars past cage in car. Frame plates in middle of hump not forward or backward.
1. Big car derbies, no trucks, vans, ambulances, jeeps, carry-alls, limousines, 4-wheel drivers, checker cabs or Chrysler
Imperials can compete. No Chrysler bodies on imperial frames.
2. Re-Inforcements:
Bumpers may be welded to frame, 1/4 inch steel plates may be added to keep bumper on car. Bumpers must
resemble stock bumpers. Maximum bumper height is 21 inches to bottom of bumper. No specialty bumpers
and if bumper sticks out farther than original mountings bumper will cause car to be disqualified. Doorplates
are required. Plate may be on the inside or outside of the door. The plate is recommended to be 12 inches high
and must go from doorpost to doorpost. No plate welded from rear bumper to trunk lid.
3. FRAMES:
Front frame seams may be welded from bumper to A-frame, top side only. Weld on the front of the frame
anywhere else will cause that car to be disqualified. Frame thickness will be checked. The rear humps on the
frame may be plated. The plate may be 1/4 inch steel, maximum 22 inches in length, must be cut to contour of
frame and plated on the outside only. Any variation from this will cause the car to be disqualified. Inspection
holes on inside of the frame must be open and visible. No patching of the frame past rear hump. If car has been
ran before rear-ends may be pulled back in place and welded together, but no plates allowed. No welding on
rear frame rails. Hump plates only on the hump.
4. BODY:
No tucking of bodies or trunks inside of car. If you have questions on tucking call to understand what we expect.
No bolting of body panels together, no welding of body panels together. You cannot weld, screw, bolt or
reinforce frames or bodies with any kind of extra metal. No internal bracing of any kind. Drivers door may be
welded solid, as can passenger door. Rear doors can have 6 tach welds per door no longer than five inches per
weld. Chains and wire can be used to fasten doors. Both front doors must be painted white or outlined for safety.
Hoods must have 12-inch hole cut above carburetor. This hole cannot expose fan. If fan becomes exposed
or hood is knocked off car will be disqualified.
A bar or wire is required from cowl to roof to prevent hood from coming in on the driver. Trunks may be
welded solid; an 8x8 inspection hole must be cut in the middle of trunk deck. Roll-over cage may be used. These
can be tach welded to frame on outside of frame only. A four-bar interior cage is allowed. The bar and legs
can extend no further than 6 inches behind front seat. No kicker bars can come off this 4-bar cage. Hoods
must open for inspection. Hoods can be chained or wired after inspection. No bolting or all-thread. Body bushings
may be removed, but if they are 1/2 inch gap with no bigger than 1 inch washers must be above frame to check
seams. No bolts biller than one inch. No oversize washers and no plates over one inch square. No oversize bolts.
No plates or washers on bottom side of frame. Nuts must be inside frame. No undercoating on frame or fresh paint.
CAR PREP:
All glass side and rear windows, plastic grill, headlights and tailgates must be removed before reaching the track.
Rolling down windows is not permitted. Also all body trim must be removed. Rear seat on sedan and station
wagons must be removed. Station wagons must be emptied to the floorboard. All cars must be swept clean.
Headliners must be removed. Gas tanks must be removed from original mounting location and securely mounted
in the back seat. Only 6 gallon boat tanks permitted or some tank of similar construction. Tanks must be securely
mounted and covered with tin or steel. The covering must be of some material that is not flammable.
No more than five gallons of gas at a time in the tank. If electric fuel pump is used it must be wired into the ignition.
Fuel lines must be clamped to the tank. If the fuel line goes through the car it must be enclosed in PVC pipe so it
isn't directly exposed to the driver. Radiators must remain in stock location. No alteration to the front end is
allowed. You cannot run extra radiators or water supplies. Transmission coolers are allowed. Batteries must
be moved. You can use 2 batteries, but they must be securely mounted and covered. Batteries cannot be in the
area of the gas tank.
TIRES:
No special tires. If it does not look like a conventional passenger car tire it is not legal. No fork lift tires stamped
or not. Nothing welded to the rims. 16 inch maximum size tire allowed. No valve stem covers permitted on wheels.
DOT Number should be painted white.
SUSPENSION:
No truck rear-ends. Trailing arms may be lengthened but no extra steel welded to the trailing arms to make them
stronger. Leaf springs cannot be wider than 1 1/2 inches and no more than seven per side. Leaf springs cannot
be welded together. Cars must bounce. No extra metal added to upper and lower A-frames.
Engines:
Engines and transmissions may be interchanged. Headers can be pointed up. Motor mounts may be welded, but
no extra bracing. Fire walls must be in all cars in original place. Fire Extinguishers are MANDATORY. Two fires
and you are disqualified.
ANY THING LET OUT OF THE RULES WILL BE LEFT UP TO THE OFFICIAL'S DECISION. ALL DECISIONS BY THE
OFFICIALS ARE FINAL.
