4-14-17 – Williamsburg, OH - Opening night at MRP was a huge success as the L&M Performance Defrost 30 would see the late model division in action for $1500 to win. Heat race action would start the night and Richmond, Ind Steve Casebolt win heat #1 over Walker Arthur of Forest, Va. In heat race #2 it was Dresdon,Ohio's Devin Moran taking the win over Camden,Ohio's Kody Evans. In the feature it was Moran out front at the green flag with Evans in pursuit. The leaders would set a torrid pace and lap up to 5th place before a caution on lap 13 would slow the field. Just before the caution Casebolt would get past Evans for 2nd spot but he would not be able to touch Moran although making several attempts. Moran would go on to claim the win in his Tye Twarog/ Donnie Moran Racing, Tommy Pope Construction sponsored Rocket machine. Casebolt would come home in second spot with Evans, Arthur, and John Whitney Jr. completing the top five spots.

The Diamond Cut Lawn Care Sportmods would see 18 cars on hand looking to take home the $400 prize and it was defending track champ Tony Seibert passing race long leader BJ Branham with 6 laps remaining to claim his first feature win of the 2017 race season. Seibert started in 3rd position and would hound Branham throughout the feature before making the race winning pass in his Scooters Machine Shop, Finish Line Performance, AJ Strasinger Trucking sponsored machine. BJ Branham would come home in second spot ahead of Derek Richmond, Dallas Pickelheimer, and Kyle Tarvin. rounding out the top five. Heat race wins would go to Kyle Tarvin and BJ Branham.

The Matt's Graphics UMP Modified division would see Adam Stricker take the win in heat #1 over Matt Hamilton while Jimmy Lennex Jr would win heat #2 over Weasel Rhoades. In the feature it was Stricker jumping out front in his Shaw by Godsey, Stricker Auto Parts, Forever Homes, Just Right Cooling sponsored machine and he would go on to claim the win by riding the outside wall all the way around the track while most other competitors would stay to bottom of the track. Lennex would pressure the youngster on restarts but would have to settle for second place on the night. Dave McWilliams would come home in 3rd spot with Weasel Rhoades rebounding from an early spin to charge back to 4th position. The fifth spot would be claimed by Larry Pickelheimer jr as he narrowly edged out Caleb Verdon.

The Cohen Recycling Compact division would see 28 cars on hand trying to make the 20 car feature lineup. In heat #1 it was Chris Shelton Jr claiming the win over Michael Skeens. Heat #2 would see Richard Dalton taking the win over Josh Hammond while heat #3 would Justin Dalton taking the win over Kevin Stamper. The B-main event would see Dalton Smith taking the win over Ryan Barrett. In the wild n crazy feature event it was Chris Shelton Jr out front early but lots of attrition would slow the pace of the race throughout. Lap #3 would see Brandon Allen make hard contact in turn #1 but he would drive his machine away. Lap #6 would see Josh Hammond overtake Shelton for the top spot but it was no easy race as the top 5 cars battled nose-tail throughout the feature event. The red flag would wave on lap 11 as Jeff Klug would flip his machine over hard in turn #1 but like the previous incident would fire up his race machine and drive it back to the pits. As the checkered flag waved it was Hammond taking the win in his Finn Fabrication machine while Dalton Smith had charged from the back of the pack to take second spot. Shelton would claim 3rd position over Nick Barrett and Eric Baker.
